Well I had my offical break down here at college. Don't ask why, long story...but it was the first time in a long time that I truly cried. How about anyone else, or am I the only one unable to get their life together?

Hey Whit, sometimes I feel like my life hasn't even started, which is almost just as frustrating.

But chin up (as Charlotte says)and you can do all things through Christ--our true reason for living.

Thanks Laura, yeah.... I had a great talk though with a friend for awhile and it was very helpful. Just a weak moment after a terrible football game!I was terrible, and then got elbowed. So I was in a crying mood and it all came out!! Anyway, all is good.

Oh my goodness, all I can say is you are not the only one Whitney. College has a way of doing that to you and shaking all your firm ground away so that you have to step back and really trust God. Things are all ok now but especially in the beginning when there was no one I was really close to to talk to about things it was difficult for me.

Please tell me it gets better cause I haven't been gone even half as long as you guys and I miss home so bad I could scream. I was walking to class today and thinking "I wonder what would happen if I totally failed at college, would I just move back home and live in my basement forever?" It was one of those realizations that I actually have no choice but sink or swim, and it was a little overwhelming. Not to mention that I almost had a ride home today for the weekend but she had to leave before I got out of class. That was kind of depressing. But not to worry... Christmas comes not too far off and that will be nice.

Yeah....I realized that it is sink or swim too. I totally lost motivation for studies three weeks in. It's just now kicking back in, thank goodness.

I'm seeing the GUARDIAN tonight!! I'm pretty excited. My roommate has been gone since Thursday morning and won't get back till Sunday night, so I've had the room to myself :) I'm going to have a sleepover with Eva though since her roommate is gone too. (They are both on the volley ball team).

I can't wait till mid term break in a week. I am going to my aunt's and crashing. And then I am having red streaks put in my hair!!! Whoohoo. I am very excited about that for some reason, oh by the way, my hair is growing, a very good thing!!

Waaaaaait. Motivation for studies? It actually exists? Cuz for me....yeah, no.

Going crazy, huh, Whitney? I would color my hair pink in a second, but I doubt my parents would approve. Actually, burgundy sounds great too...

I'm sorry I can't relate to missing home, you all...but I am sorry and I hope you all survive until Christmas. I do miss walking around and running into people I know and feel comfortable with. The only time I talk to people, our conversations are about three questions long and revolve around the topic of "What are you studying?". Ughhh...

Here's a thought for all you new freshman! First I am anonymous because I know you all (some a little more some a little less) and prefer to remain so. It would probably be pretty scarry for you all if you knew really how many adults read this blog! So here goes! The analogy is this (one to ponder) College freshman are basically like a blind person. They have had all their support systems of close and trusting friends, family and parents removed with one fell swoop. (to those who have left home) and now they are banging into the walls like a person who has newly become blind. The analogy of the walls is this: all these new people they are meeting, all these new value systems they are bumping into, all these new teaching or in some cases lack thereof teaching styles you might be bumping into. So many unknowns. It is a time when you all need a lot of grace to give others and to receive for yourself. It will settle down in a few years (maybe a little longer for some and shorter for others) and you will all get your bearings eventually. You guys have great foundations and you will all so soon find out how much of an impact you will be able to have in others lives. Remember, "It is not to him who sows or him who reaps but God who gives the increase." Take every opportunity to plant even tiniest of seeds and, "in due season you will find it again". (Your seeds will grow a harvest) So, while I have this delightful platform, I might make mention of love. Don't let yourselves be fooled into falling in love with the first someone you bump into that loves you back. Use your well trained thinking skills to search out character and common ground that might survive a lifetime (To put it into military terms "A mine field"). Find someone who you would trust with your life in a mine field. Guard your hearts and don't be too ready to give away that which is so precious and so easliy broken. Much Love and prayers for you all as you bump in to the walls!

thanks for the words of advice anonymous, I'm glad you, and whoever else, can take the time to see how stuff's going among us and to offer help.
on a side note (since I am so fond of them) to all my class mates: can you guys imagine how much worse it must have been for our parents and stuff? Seriously, I know everyone loves to point out how our generation has no idea about how good we have it technologically wise, but really, can you imagine not being able to email and make phones calls more or less at will, or specifically here, to have a way for our parents to pretty much read a composit journal of our thoughts? It would be horrible, thank heavens for email and cell phones. I don't thank heavens for math homework, which I'm off to keep doing.

Ready for a story? My working titles are: "I almost died today" -- OR-- "My van feels like a college freshman, and come to think of it, so do I."

It started last week when I discovered my van had a broken headlight. Not just burnt out, mind you, but a cracked headlight that required the old one to be removed. So, I drove around for three days with what looked like an empty eye socket on the passenger side of the car. Put on a patch and my car would have looked like a pirate … eye, matey!

It continued today when I went on an outing with some brothers. As they were getting in my van I made a comment about the truck parked behind me. I fired up the engine, slammed the car in reverse and promptly backed into my friend’s vehicle. (Doh!) Crunch! I apologized profusely but my friend was not fazed as he quickly assessed that there was NO damage to his bumper. (Four feet off the ground, like that helps!) Au contraire, my tail gate was bashed-in and now no longer opens. (Did I mention I’m reading a book about humility …)

Mr. Larsen almost died today? Well, that’s a big almost.

We noticed a strange sound on the freeway, first attributing it to the road surface but later realizing that it was coming from my vans front-end. (We were in Eugene, home of the scary Ducks, a frightening fowl.) After lunch, and on the way home, the sound grew worse and the front-end began to vibrate slightly. Conducting some on-the-road tests we determined that the noise and rattle went away as we accelerated, and conversely, the noise and rattle increased as we decelerated. Taking into account the results of these physics experiments and combining it with the vast storehouse of automobile knowledge that we as middle-aged men possess, we concluded that there must be a problem with the front-end of the car. (Duh.)

This is getting a little longer than I wanted. Fast forwarding a little.,,

We were nearing Albany on I-5 when I noticed a distinct increase in vibration and fuzziness in Ed, who was situated in my rear view mirror. I moved BOTH hands to the steering wheel, a requirement usually reserved for young drivers or vehicles with manual steering. Using a cell phone one of the guys called Les Schwab in Albany for directions as I decelerated to 55 mph and engaged the hazard lights. We took exit 233, a 270 degree clover-leaf off-ramp at 15 mph … no, that’s what I should have taken it at... Instead, I was going 35ish when it felt like the tire was beginning to unravel. I then felt and heard what I thought was the rim on the road … but soon realized it was my brakes … because I caught in my peripheral vision a view of my front tire scampering and skipping through the grassy freeway median like a young girl in a summer dress. As I scrapped to a halt, my tire hit an embankment launching it into the air like a free-style skateboarder doing an acrobatic maneuver. (Later, one of the guys found it in the middle of a creek next to the Albany airport.)

No, I didn’t almost die. But it could have been a lot worse if my wheel had come off doing 65 on the freeway proper and I had collided with another vehicle. I’m pleased that no one was injured and that we live to see another day … (although I’d rather be in heaven.)

After some banging and pounding, a few fresh parts, the turn or two of a wrench, a LOT of mullah, some inconvenience and, in the not too distant future, she’ll be “on the road again …” (In the meantime, Danae looses her car. Bummer for her.)

Happy Birthday, Jane!

Ok, so I just finished watching The Little Mermaid for the first time since we had it stollen from us in our old house at least ten years ago. Anyway, this is of course the ultimate bad Disney movie because she's rebellious and all that, but I have to say, after watching it again, that if you're going to write it off you'd better include Finding Nemo in there because it's more or less the same thing, only Nemo was worse. Seriously, both of the kids did bad crap in both of the movies, and they're rebellious and all that. And both of the dads did stuff wrong too. But her dad in Little Mermaid did much worse than Marlin in Nemo, not to mention that in Nemo he swam halfway accross the world to save his kid. And furthermore, Nemo never says sorry, Ariel did, however brief it may have been. So the way I see it Finding Nemo was even more screwed up because Marlin never really did anything all that bad, plus he rescued the whining brat and in the end it's the Dad who apologizes but never Nemo. In Little Mermaid they both do bad stuff and they both apologize. Not to mention that the restored quality on the DVD is seriously incredible to look at. Anyway, that's just my thought since I'm all about the movies and so forth. Everyone take it easy this week, I just figured out that I'm 1/60 of the way done with College so I figure taking it easy and pacing myself is the best way to go.

I just watched Spirited Away...I know, I know, a pox on me for not seeing it sooner. I know you like his movies, Tyler. Anyway, I loved Spirited Away, mostly because it was better than Howl's Moving Castle. The latter was a huge disappointment after reading the incredibly wondeful book. If any of you have extra time and nothing to do (ha!), read it.

So in my Political Science class today, my teacher happens to mention the female candidate for the French Presidency, and suddenly all the girls in my class went wacko-feminist and up-with-the-oppressed-women. Kind of scary. But I thought that those girls who did the Five Aspects study with Mrs. Rauch would have appreciated it--and its absurdity.

Blogger Tyler said...

Heh, absurd females, there's an oddity. I mean..uh...ignore that!
Anyway, I really don't see HOW it took you that long to see such a masterpiece! Phillip just Howl's Moving Castle (He called it Hal's at first...) and Mononoke. Princess Mononoke is quite good, and if you get the chance I found Castle in the Sky to be one of the best. And Nausicca and the Valley of the Wind. And the Cat Returns. Porco Rosso is pretty good, and Kiki's delivery service is definately for younger kids, but also a dcent watch. Heh, the only movies of his I haven't seen are Lupin the Third and Castle Cagliostro and My Neighbor Totoro. And I intend to see them.
The next studio Ghibli film will come out next summer and is based on the Earthsea books. It will be directed by Miyazaki. Miyazaki junior , Hayao Miyazaki's son.

Anyway...um, oh, watched Aladdin again recently. One of my suitemates had it and I was bored. Quite a fun movie, good music....all in all worth the watch. Oooo, hehehe, k, debate time. Which Disney movie should I watch next? Which, in your opinion is the best? (I hope an interesting debate starts from this!)

Tyler and Laura, the movies of which you speak are to be sure some of the very best! I still think Spirited Away is the best of all, I haven't read Howl, but I liked the movie though the end did seem really out there. I think I've seen all the ones you've seen Tyler, and I really want to see the others you mentioned especially Castle Cagliostro, in fact I almost bought it at fry's the day before I left because Steven Spielberg had q quote on the box about how it was one of the greatest adventure movies of all time and I'm thinking, "steven spielberg is amazing, Hayao Miyazaki is amazing... this all must mean something..." just kidding, I knew what it meant; that it would be wicked sweet! But it was twenty bucks and I have a policy against spending more than fifteen on a movie I haven't already seen. Hold on for a second. Ok I'm back and now I'm ticked. I just searched SUMMIT which is like the network of school libraries that my library is attatched to. It turns out that two of the network libraries have it but neither are available to be shared through the system. So close, so very close. Anyhow, Aladdin is a great movie and I ought to get it before it goes into the vault again because heaven knows that the next time it's out will be on some god forsaken blu ray or HD dvd and I'm not paying 35 dollars for it, I'm just not.

Good times. I'm feeling a bit better today, though I've only eaten four crackers and a piece of toast in the last 24 hours.

Sorry to bore you with my misery. I'm still trying to decide if I should go to school.

Laura Wilson I'm sorry to hear about your illness, I hate being sick and as far as throwing up five times, I can't honestly remember if I've ever been that sick. There was of coures my whole "Purging" phase and I did a lot of throwing up then, but does it count if it's self induced? Ok I'm just kidding, but maybe I ought to, you guys wouldn't believe how this college food is affecting me, I need to find a scale. But it's good, in a few more weeks I might pass a normal well fed person. Oh, and on that note, I thought I'd let you all know that I haven't eaten at McDonalds in three weeks which isn't long, but not even a $0.75 drink, I'm kind of going crazy. Anyway, I'm just back from class and besides having to sit through another 50 minutes of Bush bashing and whining about how everyone was "so mean" to the Dixie Chicks after their whole england episode, I'm pretty happy because now I have the rest of the day off. Now, I'm not gonna lie, I'm going back to bed so I'll talk to you all later. Hey Tyler, I see you just posted.

Joel, I sympathize about the Bush-bashing. Everyone at Clackamas, unless they're homeschoolers, automatically assumes you hate Bush, just like they do. It's like he's the greatest long-running joke. Well I've got two words for them: Ted Kennedy.

Still haven't decided about school. I have to make up my mind in about five minutes to get to class on time. Curses! Not sure if I can drive, but I don't want to miss class--we're studying the Constitution.

Oh, and Tyler, watch Peter Pan. One of my all-time great childhood nostalgic Disney movies, next to Robin Hood. Besides, Captain Hook is brilliant. If you've already seen it recently, watch Hercules--probably the one of the best recent Disney movies (and much better than Bother Bear and all that muck).

Tyler, tell them hey for me. I see about the verification letters. It's true about the songs in Peter Pan but it still is good. Herculese has such a good soundtrack, it was my favorite for a long time but when I got older I appreciated Beauty and the Beast more than I had when I was younger. The long and the short of it is that if I were rating Disney movies (and because I love making top ten lists, especially wheh there's like fifteen movies because I double up numbers) it would go like this:
1. Beauty and the Beast/The Incredibles
3. Spirited Away
2. Herculese/The Emperor's New Groove
4. Aladdin/Toy Story
5. The Little Mermaid
6. Sleeping Beauty
7. Cinderella
8. The Great Mouse Detective/Brave Little Toaster
9. Monster's Inc.
10. The Rescuers/Peter Pan

Yeah I think that about sums it up. I know I left off 101 dalmations and Robin Hood, and Peter Pan only tied for tenth but that's the way it stacks up I suppose. Of course if you aren't counting japanese imports or Pixar the list still stands just with those removed. Has anyone seen The Black Cauldron? I want to, it was their first one that wasn't a musical but I've never seen it. Oh well, three cheers for Disney (all perverted scandals aside)

My thoughts aren't organized enough to have a top 10, although incredibles is definately up there! And if Disne does all American Miyazaki, Castle in the Sky has a high rank for me.

better than Spirited Away or no? I liked Castle in the Sky a lot, but for some reason it didn't get to me like Spirited Away, maybe because nobody turned into pigs. That was a joke, not very funny since I've been doin regressions like crazy and my brain is shot. In any event, one day I'll make a list of 11-20 and it would probably find it's way there, it would most likely share a spot with Peter Pan. Alright here comes some sweet sleep, see you all on the other side...of sleep I mean, not death.

Perhaps if I start being haunted by the memory I'll feel compelled to write some sort of soul searching poem, but I guess we'll all just have to wait and see now won't we? Alright then, now I'm going to sleep (I hope) and I seriously hope you guys in Illinois or Texas aren't still up because it's like four am and that sounds so terrible. OK then, later.

Oh Laura, I'm afraid Bambi wouldn't even be makikng a top 20 list, though I hate the cold dark boringness of it all, I was raised a hunter and have in fact bagged a deer so I can't really buy Bambi's bleeding heart stuff. The Rescuers Down Under is a good one too, but I always thought Medusa (I'm sure that's spelled wrong) was a great villain.

Im sorry, but I have major issues with snow white, cinderella, and ariel. they drive me crazy, because they meet the prince for one second and off they go to get married.
Ariel: what falls in love with an unconcious guy?
SW: who falls in love with someone who kisses princesses? Cinderella: I don't care how good his moves are, one (very long) dance just doesn't cut it.

This is all true, and it doesn't even address the fact that they were like what 16? Ariel and Aurora were for sure, I don't know about the other two but they couldn't have been much older. Then again, you have to consider that this is the time before diseases so they didn't have to worry about that, and they were all pretty good looking so they didn't have to worry about their guys "straying" if you know what I mean, though it would be hilarious if they re-did Closer with two of the Disney Princesses and their Princes, in a really depressing and tragic kind of way. Anyway, everyone knows that when it comes to animated movies all you need for them to fall into eternal love is a really great song. So let's review: Snow White & The Prince: Some Day My Prince Will Come. Cinderella and The Prince: So This is Love. Aurora and The Prince: Once Upon A Dream. Ariel and Eric (finally a name for one of the guys): Kiss The Girl. All of this is just one long argument for Beauty and the Beast because they actually fall in love for a reason. Aren't Disney movie just THE BEST! maybe not, but for better or worse they're like one of the most basic elements of an American childhood. Speaking of Kiss the Girl, it just came on my iTunes and I'm gonna listen to it so I'll talk to you all later. (Yes it is in fact impossible to enjoy a song while you type)

Why is it always princesses? It seems so steriotypical to make them all beautiful, naive, caring, courageous people....Seriously, name me one disney princess who doesn't fit this stereotype! They also have to have no mother and a foolish father. If they have a father.

I love Sleeping Beauty because the "prince" actally has a name. And he is the one who has to recsue the princess and save the kingdom from Satan (she's one of the greatest villians ever). All the princess does is lay around in a coma. It's great. The Little Mermaid, on the other hand, has the prince walking around in a spell-induced coma (of sorts) while Ariel saves the day. Plus the three good fairies are great. Especially Merriweather.

I quite agree that Beauty and the Beast is the best Disney movie EVER--the music is brilliant, its gorgeous, the princess (Belle) isn't blonde (it means a lot), and I love the stained-glass narration.

Well, I'm done pyscho-analyzing Disney movies. They're great...as long as you skip most of the recent garbage.

Laura, Tyler can tell you more about Kingdom Hearts than the fact that it's a video game (that's all I know but I've heard it's excellent) But must I remind you that while Eric did have his trance for a while it was he, while Ariel was at the bottom of the whirlpool about to be blasted to death, who drove the ship into Ursula? I thought that his was the most like Prince Phillip's fight because both were fighting things significantly larger than them, not to mention that, um hello? The three fairies put a spell on Phillip's sword and Eric had to rely on his Nautical Skills for his vitory. This is all a rediculously petty thing, but I must say, debating these trifles with people I respect is way better than fighting over things that matter with people too stupid (harsh but true) to see beyond their own selfish wants. Anyway, I want sleep and I get to sleep in tomorrow so I'm happy.

Sigh. Kingdom Hearts is a game made by Square (who are geniuses) and Disney. You, Sora, travel with Donald and Goofy to various Disney lands, lke Agrabah, Neverland, Halloween Town, Hundred Acre Wood etc. Since Disney was involved, all their characters were pretty true to themselves, and Maleficent was a wonderful enemy. Evil evil evil. Her dragon form took me like 5 trys to beat T.T. And I never thought I'd say it, but Derek and I spent hours in the Hundred Acre Wood playing with Pooh! Sigh

Blargh, I hate to jump on the favorite animated movies bandwagon so late, but I'm gonna anyway. This is Matt fyi.

For me it goes:

1) Princess Mononoke
2) Nightmare Before Christmas
3) Spirited Away
4) Incredibles
5) FFVII: Advent Children (I don't CARE if the movie sucks, fight scenes are sOOOO good)
6) Monsters Inc.
7) Emperor's New Groove (talking llamas make me laugh)
8) Cat Returns (talking cats make me chuckle...)
9) Castle in the Sky
10) Toy Story 2

Yea, I have as much taste as a guy with four tongue studs.

And Whitney, I heard Greg is a huge Skillet fan. Does he like their new CD? I only bought 3 songs, but I'm impressed.

dark knight is in the making i think, it might be good, who knows it could finally do Batman some justice. As for Batman Begins, i didn't like it, but not for the same reasons as Joel. He was supposed to be in the shadows the whole time and running around quickly like a ninja. But in every batman movie he wears this bullet proof, knife proof, tank proof armour that won't let him bend his back. And, he should drive a sports car equipped with tons of weapons, not a TANK. Plus, this is something that someone should have thought of years ago, but he needs night vision contact lenses that glow white, because batman has white eyes. It's why he's so intimidating.
And they should have done something with his cape. Every time he beats someone up, he should have had a ridiculously huge full moon behind hime while has cape blows in the wind conceiling everything from his chin down.

Well, Drew, I guess you'll just have to direct the next Batman movie. Seriously, though, compared to all previous attempts at the story, Batman Begins was great. It felt much more real and tangible than say, George Clooney trading Rock'Em-Sock'Em Robot punches with a pun-spewing giant freezer.

I agree with you on the eyes thing, because without the white, every Batman mask has made the wearer look cross-eyed and pouchy. The cape thing would work every one in a while, but every time Batman beats someone up, you can't cut to haunting image of man in tights with blowing cape. It would get monotonous.

In the end, Batman Begins did a good job, mostly because, no matter what you do, Batman is still a full-grown, well-educated man who runs around at night in black spandex, a flowy cape, andc pointy ears, calling himself Bat-Man. Not very imagninative, and kind of disturbing, but somehow it works.

Generally speaking, most superhero movies don't work (Spiderman and Superman being, I think, the exceptions). Hey, at least (I hope) we never have to watch Alicia Silverstone again. Shudder...

Blogger Joel said...

Laura I second your comment on Alicia Silverstone, but then again she annoys me in every role she's ever played. Someone needs to teach her that you can't act just with your lips. Though I have to also say that I thought Uma Thurman was the best Poisen Ivy ever, I know it was cheesy, but it was so funny. Anyhow, superhero movies are quite the thing aren't they, but you didn't mention X-Men which for the most part worked pretty well. side note, is it just me or so we rack up the comments really fast nowadays, we're at 91 already. We have been jabbering a lot, haven't we? Wierd...

Joel, I know you have a thing for Uma Thurman and this time I must agree with you that she was pretty good as Poison Ivy. Sure, her character only called for her to hit on anything male and breathing. but she pulled off the deranged-environmentalist well.

I suppose I enjoyed the X-Men movies. The third installment was a huge disappointment...I only remember it with joy because I saw it with several of my fellow-seniors on graduation day. Good times. However, in all three: way too much Rogue and Bobby (just shoot me please), too much of Storm doing absolutely nothing to help her fellow mutants (short of rolling her eyes backwards), and most importantly, NO GAMBIT! Enough said. The first two were enjoyable enough.

I absolutely agree with you Sara...The Hulk was almost pointless. Eric Bana, as usual was great, but I never really got involved in the emotional quandries of a giant green man in purple shorts.

Ok Matthew...Scarcrow is nothing compared to the Joker...just a short Irishman with puffy lips. Hopefully they get the Joker right in the next installment. That dude from Brokeback Mountain. Don't know about that. Paul Battany is an obvious Riddler, but he would have been awesome as the Joker.

Sorry. Enough geeky, self-gratifying musings. And Matthew, comment as much as you like (within reason).

I'll take you up on that offer Laura.

Pssh, Bobby has the coolest power, except for Gambit ( I TOTALLY agree, why wasn't he in the movie?!?!?!?!?!?!?). I mean, sure, Rogue and Shadowcat can go die in a fire for all I care, but other than them I did enjoy the 3rd movie within reason. Magneto destroying the motorcade was really sweet, though someone should've clued Mystique in that you can be an alien mutant AND wear clothes at the same time.

And Sara, obviously I was referring to only the boys in our class, the girls are not leprous (please don't kill me).

And hey, no one forget the classic Fantastic 4! It gets my vote for crappy super hero movie, though I didn't like Daredevil either (Ben Affleck can join Rogue and Shadowcat in the fiery inferno).

I even liked Pyro better than Bobby. Also, how come the only evil mutants Magneto could drag up in the 3rd movie were ethnic minorities? Seriously, watch the movie, it's true. They're all goths with spikey hair. Oooo, hard core, they're in black...maybe they're the bad guys! No, really? And those man/woman things creeped me out.

But we could argue superheroes for days on end...and sound remarkably like sixth-graders in the process.

HEY catwoman wasn't all that bad. Ok who am I kidding, it was awful, but it was one of those so bad it's good kind of things, I just love the pointlessness of it all. It's true Laura I do have a thing for Uma, but only because all the characters she plays are so awesome. Did you see The Avengers? It was totally lame but a lot of fun, I thought, and she played Mrs. Peel though not as good as Diana Rigg from the originals. And of course there's the immortal character of The Bride who is one of my three most favorite movie characters of all time (the other two being Jack Sparrow and Han Solo) and as far as X-Men 3 goes, the story wasn't the best but I loved the set pieces especially Magneto moving the bridge, it was so loud and spectacular, but I suppose I could also have been under the joyful fits of graduation day as well. All of the young mutants were overplayed in this one, though Ellen Page is an awesome actress. It's true about Magneto's ethinic people, I seriously hated Calypso. And I'm sorry... Angel? Really? He was such a marketing stunt, the only reason he was in the movie was so they could put that shot of him diving out of the window in the trailer, and then it was so cheesy in the actual movie. Anyway, this is me ranting about superhero movies. On the previously discussed note, has anyone read the final Series of Unfortunate Events book? It ended in a kind of unexpected way, but it was good. I just wonder what any of you thought of it.

yeah that was pretty much my thought on the movie as well. It was cute in its own way, but a lot of the charm of the books is the authors style which wasn't transfered to the movie very well despite the fact that Jude Law was the narrator and it could have been done well. Anyway, I love the books and it's so strange to think that they're all done. I remember the first time I saw them, which sound lame, but it has to do with the class. It must have been in Christmas of 2002 when we had our scavanger hunt gift exchange at the Woodburn Mall, and we went into the book store and they had 1-9 available and I thought the cover art was kinda creepy but cool. Anyway I wound up reading them a long time later, but I remember it because Whitney and Chelsea were calling me to hurry up from the fron t of the store and I was looking at the description on the back. Any way I got the first book at the end of that Christmas break so I'm looking at what four years that I've been reading them. It's all very sad to be done with a book series you've enjoyed. Just wait until next summer.

(Ok as a side note I just went to enter in my little verification and it says "godpuxe" so that's a little creepy don't you think?)

I leave for a day and look what I miss!

I haven't seen any disney movie recently enough to be a fair judge, but I will try.

Can't...all disney is too influenced by Kingdom Hearts until I watch them again! It's sad. Although, having just seen Aladin, I may in fact enjoy the rewatching. Suitemate has Lion king, guess that one's next!

I hated, mostly, X-3. Truly. Yes the action was fun, but some of it was so pointless. "Let me hurl cars while you blow them up!" 15 minutes later "Bwahahah, there haven't bean any people around for ages, but this is so cool we can keep doing it for no reason and people will love it!" Except me. I, mercifully, can separate powers from actors, and loved Shadowcat and Iceman's powers. I hated Kitty and Bobby, but love the powers. In fact, I hated almost all the people. Why? Becuase they lost so much of their personality. Logan is the only one who retained ANY! And Magneto, but his doesn't really count since it's just "SINISTER! DOOM! DEATH panic POWERS COMING BACK!!!" Honestly, where was the banter, like Logan retracting only 2 claws, or how hw proves it's him and not Mystique? Gone. And the action, the only possible highlight of the movie, I keep coming back to it! Nightcrawlers infiltration, Mystiques infiltration, the acadamy infiltration, every...single...ONE of those fights is better than the climax of X-3. X-3 ditched indiidual talents for mass war, and so much is lost in the process. I don't care if you claim that the 5 on 500 odds that the X-men faced showed individual powers, it didn't. Mystique, since they don't really have her fight, is supposed to...well, appeal to certain guys. AND THE ENDING. Sob my my heart out I stabbed you and I love you! Bah, Jackman's a good actor, and she delivers the "Kill me" line well, but still, the whole premise was, "Let's show Wolverine's skin coming off and regrowing! CGI makes money!" SUmming up this rant, 3 was inferior to 1 and 2 and almost Daredevil.Well okay, not THAT bad...but close enough to worry me about the next X-Men.

bgewd - E.T line!

It's true Tyler, you can't turn your back for a minute or you're like fifty comments behind and let's be honest, sitting and reading fifty in a row is practically torture. Anyhow, where did you go? I must say Legion I was a little tweaked at your comment that most Disney movies were geared toward women and children, especially Beauty and the Beast, you know it's the only animated movie ever to be nominated for the Best Picture? Obviously the princesses are very exciting for all the little girls who want to be just like them, but most of these movies were made by a whole buunch of guys, and there's lots of things for guys to enjoy. True about Ribon Hood though, it's a pretty good one, though it always felt like the first half and the second half were disconnected. In any event it's full of great quotes. Now Lion King, there a Disney movie I can't understand. I just don't get its appeal to so many people. I wouldn't mind seeing the Broadway show though, I've heard it's incredible. By the way Sara, word is they have officially got Hugh Jackman back for a Wolverine movie and supposedly they also have Sir Ian McKellan back for a Magneto movie that's set before all three X-Mens. Anyway, that's the way I heard it.

I don't know Joel, after you've seen the broadway Lion King you can't help but love the movie. But Robin Hood definitley ties with Beauty and the Beast for number one classic disney movie in my book. But getting back to the princesses debate, I have to set Sleeping beauty apart, because in the disney version (this does not apply to the fairy tale) she meets him before she falls in love with him. This is a rare occurance, and I find it particularly shocking because it is not that way in the classic fairy tale. Disney can't get the credit in Beauty and the beast because the were just staying true to the story.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Absolutely, Sara...the Lion King becomes brilliant and wonderful after the Broadwy show. Now I love the movie.

One of the things that bugs me about Disney movies is that they are, as legion said, rather female-oriented. It's almost always the man who has to wake up, change, get with the program. Robin Hood's a great exception. But Beauty and the Beast has just as much glorious imagry as Sleeping Beauty, even if it isn't as obvious as a prince killing the Satan dragon. It has death and rebirth...and a solid line between good and evil (as do most of the older Disney films). The bad guys don't get reconciled to the good guys and make friends in the end. If they're really, truly evil, they get chucked off a cliff or skewered.

Best Gaston line: Here in town there's only she, who is beautiful as me...

X-Men should die and stay dead, in my opinion. Amen, Joel, Angel was yet another huge disappointment. First of all, he wasn't even involved in the main plot or conflict...they just switch to shots of pretty boy with blond hair and no shirt on. Why, I ask you? So eventually, he takes a dive off of a skyscraper. Woohoo. Then he soars over the city in a very melancholy fashion. It could have been brilliant and meaningful. Instead, it was just a ploy to get girls to go, "Hey, there's a new cute shirtless guy in this movie with deep emotional issues...I'm soo going to see it!!"

Yeah. Basically.

X-Men 3 was a pretty good movie. There were parts that annoyed me and I've written most of these down either under this post or in the review I did on my other blog. I don't think The Phoenix was pointless. In fact, she was one of the strongest driving forces in the movie. She's not in limbo, I thought, she was caught between the two different people in her head. One was a good person who we cared about in the first two (or were meant to care about) and the other was a psychopathic freak of destructive mayhem. The point of her character was to show how people who don't know who they are can be manipulated by clever people who use them to do wrong. Magneto is brilliant, whatever else he may be, and he used her for his own gain even though in the end his plan didn't work out. Xavier's death was to prove the point that sometimes the good and noble don't win. Even though he was dead the school moved on and kept running so his legacy and what he most hoped to accomplish was achieved. Aside from the annoyance that was Angel, and the teen drama that was only lame because it was so overplayed, I enjoyed the movie very well. That is what I was trying to say up there; sorry I wasn't clearer, like I said... no sleep.

Oh, and as long as I'm being argumentative... The Little Mermaid is one of Disney's most beautiful and enjoyable creations.

And to end with a neutral, did anybody else know that Mrs. Hills' Grandpa, Clyde Geronimi, directed Sleeping Beauty?

you're very welcome.
Who do you mean by "Him?" If you mean Clyde Geronimi I agree very etirely. He also directed Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmations, Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland (which until two minutes ago I thought was called Alice and Wonderland) Anyway, it's a pretty sweet list of movies. 101 Dalmations is another good Disney movie that gets overlooked from time to time and it's too bad. Anyhow back to Math study!

Ok, what's the deal? I just tried to post a video from YouTube on here twice. I tried a while ago and it didn't show so I figured I'd messed something up. Anyway I just tried again and it still doesn't show! If it's just me and everybody else can see it, or both of them even, let me know. If it's really just not working then I'm inclined to blame Google because they bought YouTube last I heard and I'm sure it's all their fault.

Umm Joel... WHAT THE HECK? You never told me that Mrs. Hills' Grandpa directed all of those movies. I thought that all he did was like the smaller cartoons and maybe give some words of advice to Walt. Those movies are awesome.Maybe I've just been in the dark all this time, in my own little dream world. Oh well, I know now and I can't change what was never told to me in the past.

P.S. I took the PSAT's today and they were iffy. I did well I think on the first math section, and the writing I'm skeptical of, but the last section was easy. It was all like is this write or wrong: They is wenting to the store to picked him chocolate. Anyway, I should wrap this up before I start to banter.

P.P.S. It might be cold in Londen, so I've decided to take the sweater
