I've been hitting everybody's facebook walls, but not everybody's got one, and, being an avid MySpace protester, I can't say that I blame them! Anyway, like the sign and the girl above me says, Merry Christmas and I love you guys, was it only a year ago that we sat in Mrs. Magill's room playing Apples to Apples while Mr. Hansen told us about Jay's joke about eternal damnation? In answer to my own question, yes it was, but it feels like a lot longer than that! And we hadn't even started our... dare I say it... Poiesis yet! What a year. In case I never told you all the holidays get me about as nostalgic as a photo album, but not nearly as fun to look at. Enough from me, Merry Christmas to you Abigail, Chelsea, Laura G, Philippa, Phillip, Tyler, Whitney, Sarah, Jane, and, the New Girl for three and a half years running, Laura W!
Happy Boxing Day, everyone! Hehehe...it's a great excuse to do nothing the day after Christmas....
I hope you all had a truly lovely Christmas. I know mine was grand. Though, I didn't feel like I got into the "Christmas spirit" very much...does that just happen when you get older? Oh well...I still watched The Christmas Story and It's A Wonderful Life and ate WAY more candy than was good for me, and shuffled around in fuzzy slippers. Peace on earth, no doubt.
PAC Women’s Swimmer/Diver of the Week JANE WILSON Grove City College Freshman - freestyle/butterfly Newberg, Ore. Veritas H.S. Wilson posted six wins for the 1-1 Wol- verines last week, as Grove City opened PAC competition with a 100-77 win over Bethany Wednesday before dropping a 144-130 non-league meet to Hiram Saturday. She captured the 50 free (25.40) and 100 fly (1:05.17) while swimming a leg on the winning 200 medley relay versus Bethany. Against Hiram, Wilson won both the 50 (24.97) and 100 free (54.90) along with a leg for the winning 400 free relay team.
Ok, so my brothers got the book Eragon for Christmas and I've just spent the last two days reading it...it was incredibly formulaic and predictable, but for some reason, I couldn't put it down. Sad, I know.
It was mildly entertaining how cliched it was...what with Eragon getting hit over the head and sinking into darkness only to awake, find himself under a rough blanket, with some guy crouching near a fire and telling him he's been out for two days, every other chapter. I might skip the movie....especially if it has the annoying elf lady in it.
Yeah, that too...have you read the second book yet? Hmmm...how will it end? Just a guess, but someone is going to betray the good guys and there will be a one-one show-down. How come the massively evil dictators never choke on their dinner and die? Or have heart attacks? Or get hit be rogue chariots/wagons/Porches? They always have to hack up the hero, gloat and then die with a resounding "Nooooo! It's impossible!!!"
Not great, but Eragon's all I've got until Harry Potter comes out. What is it now? Five long months?
Welcome to the world of Eragon....as generic as possible, and yet it's the filler unitl the good stuff comes along. And Harry Potter can't come soon enough.
True, true, and Major TRUE about not coming fast enough! Did you end up seeing the movie Tyler? I swear, watching it only made it more obvious how much of the story was taken from other places. As for how it ends Laura, it's maddening to realize that the ending is probably already out there as the ending to some well known fantasy story, but guessing which one he'll use is hopeless!
To J.K. Rowling's Publisher, if you would check the last few comments of the last post..that which hit 153 comments...you would see we discussed it in more detail.
Yes, Eragon is drivel...but, alas, it's entertaining just to try to predict what cliche it's going to use next. Let's see: noble, naive peasant boy (check), old crusty sage/tudor (check), supremely evil being with unnaturally colored hair (check), dark lord with an obviously manufactured name (check), gorgeous and mysterious female interest with a sword (check), sub-human mindless beasties to do the dark will of the dark lord (otherwise known as orcs, but check), and a plucky sidekick (check).
